Sumana Roy
Author, Poet & Academic
Sumana Roy is a writer and academic whose work spans fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, marked by a quiet lyricism and deep engagement with the natural world. Her debut novel Missing was longlisted for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature, while her genre-defying non-fiction work How I Became a Tree received international acclaim for blending memoir, literary criticism, and philosophy into a meditation on human–nature relationships. She is also the author of Out of Syllabus, a poetry collection, and My Mother’s Lover and Other Stories. Currently teaching at Ashoka University, Sumana writes at the intersections of literature, ecology, and lived experience. Her work continues to push the boundaries of form and subject, reflecting her belief in literature as both personal inquiry and cultural conversation.
