The seeds of DDLF were sowed in 2017, when the festival Founder, Mr. Samraant Virmani, sought to bring to the Doon valley the best in the world of literature, cinema, art and culture. Ever since, with each edition, the festival has continued to grow and diversify, with never before heard or seen concepts being introduced to Dehradun.

Taking the pursuit and advocacy for literature seriously, DDLF has brought speakers of outstanding repute to the valley. Over the years, the festival has also acquired a global outlook, bearing in mind the exposure that must necessarily be given to the students of Dehradun. Taking along the heritage of Dehradun and Uttarakhand, combining elements of history, nature, education and literature, the festival aspires to reach out to an ever increasing number of people, creating a thriving community of literature lovers and a fertile platform for literary exchange.
