Dr. Justice Dhananjaya Yeshwant Chandrachud is the 50th Chief Justice of India, widely respected for his progressive, human-rights–oriented judgments and his role in shaping contemporary constitutional law. Over the course of his judicial career—first as a judge of the Bombay High Court, later as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, and since 2016 as a judge of the Supreme Court—he has authored landmark decisions on privacy, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, freedom of speech, and technology. Known for combining intellectual rigor with empathy, Justice Chandrachud has championed inclusivity and the protection of fundamental rights in a rapidly changing society. His leadership also extends to judicial reforms, with a strong emphasis on digitization and accessibility of courts.
